Ghana’s President John Mahama has removed Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office following the recommendation of an inquiry. Her suspension in April led to a five-member committee investigation after complaints were lodged against her.

• The inquiry found that "grounds of stated misbehaviour… had been established."
• Ms. Torkornoo, Ghana’s third female chief justice, was nominated in 2023 by former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
• She is the first sitting chief justice to be investigated and dismissed in Ghana.
