Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Beijing to strengthen their nations' partnership, signing over 20 cooperation documents and announcing a visa-free pilot program for Russian citizens.

• China will pilot a visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from Russia for 30-day stays, from September 15, 2024 to September 14, 2026.
• The meeting at the Great Hall of the People included discussions on energy, space, artificial intelligence, and agriculture.
• This visit coincided with Putin's attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025 and commemorations for the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
