The Kenyan Judiciary, in collaboration with the Prisons and Correctional Services, has launched a nationwide prison decongestion exercise. This initiative aims to uphold justice, humanity, and rehabilitation within the criminal justice system.

• 18 prisoners were released to community service in Garissa G.K. Prison during the inaugural visit.
• Chief Justice Martha Koome emphasized a shift from punitive incarceration to rehabilitation and reintegration, promoting Community Service Orders (CSOs) for petty offenders.
• The initiative seeks a sustainable prison population and aims to divert children in conflict with the law from prisons, as highlighted by Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons MS Jane Kirii who also called for expanded ICT facilities in prisons.
