A new container guarantee scheme introduced by Viatrans and its Kenyan subsidiary Viaservice Kenya is set to free up an estimated Sh4.5 billion tied up in cargo levies, aiming to boost business growth, especially for small-scale operators. This initiative allows for letters of guarantee as an alternative to the traditional cash deposits required for containers.

• The scheme is expected to release approximately Sh4.5 billion previously held as container deposits and demurrage.
• Viatrans, through Viaservice Kenya, has signed agreements with four shipping lines and 35 percent of Kenya's 1,200 clearing and forwarding firms.
• CEO of the Shippers Council of East Africa (SCEA), Agayo Ogambi, confirmed a Memorandum of Understanding with Viatrans, anticipating reduced business costs.
