A US federal court has overturned a decision by President Donald Trump’s administration to cut approximately $2 billion (£1.5 billion) in research funding to Harvard University.

• Judge Allison Burroughs ruled that the government’s actions violated Harvard’s free speech rights, though she noted the university was wrong to tolerate antisemitism.
• The Trump administration had accused Harvard of antisemitism, “radical left” ideologies, and racial bias when it froze the funding in April.
• Judge Burroughs suggested the government used antisemitism as a “smokescreen for a targeted, ideologically-motivated assault on this country’s premier universities.”
