The sinkhole led to the closure of the affected section, causing traffic disruptions from Wednesday, September 3, into Thursday morning.

• KeNHA (Kenya National Highways Authority) opened the affected carriageway on Thursday, September 4, after covering the sinkhole.
• The incident sparked debate amid accusations from the Motorists Association of Kenya (MAK) that traffic jams are intentionally caused to promote a nationwide tolling policy, a claim dismissed by the Director-General of the PPP Directorate, Eng. Kefa Seda.
