Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has cautioned fellow legislator Babu Owino against leaving the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party for Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy or the Citizens' Party (DCP). Kaluma warned that such a move would diminish Owino's political standing, especially regarding the Nairobi gubernatorial race in 2027.

• Kaluma stated that joining Gachagua's camp would be Owino's "shortest political walk to oblivion," urging him to return to Raila Odinga and ODM.
• Owino recently expressed feeling sidelined in ODM and believes Raila Odinga favors Governor Johnson Sakaja for the Nairobi gubernatorial position.
• Owino also accused President William Ruto of interfering with Governor Sakaja's impeachment process, arguing that granting Sakaja more time harms Nairobi residents.
