The Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) has sued the Public Service Commission (PSC) to demand improved terms of service, including better entry-level grades and allowances, for engineers within the Kenyan Civil Service. This legal action follows prolonged and unsuccessful negotiations between the IEK and the PSC.

• The IEK seeks to upgrade the entry-level grade for engineers from Civil Service Grade (CSG) 10 to CSG 9.
• IEK President Engineer Shammah Kiteme announced the lawsuit, stating it aims for engineers to receive benefits like risk and non-practising allowances, similar to those enjoyed by other professionals such as lawyers and doctors.
• Negotiations began on December 15, 2022, with a formal proposal submitted in March 2023, highlighting significant disparities in employment terms between engineers and other professions.
