Kenya has received a 3.2 billion Shillings ($25 million) grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the Longitudinal Study of Health and Aging in Kenya (LOSHAK). This five-year study will examine the impact of Kenya's rapidly growing older adult population on its health and economic systems.

• The study is a joint effort between Aga Khan University (AKU) Medical College, East Africa, and the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research (ISR).
• The elderly population in Kenya is projected to quadruple in the next three decades, creating new demands for healthcare and economic solutions.
• LOSHAK will conduct two large-scale surveys: a national survey of about 6,500 Kenyans aged 45 and above, and a focused study of 2,300 older adults in Kenya’s Coast Region to investigate cognitive disorders.
