Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has urged global investors to package tea in Kenya for export to ensure higher value and market appeal, speaking at the North America Tea Conference in South Carolina. He highlighted the Kenyan government's removal of taxes on packaging materials for agricultural products to make this affordable.

• Kenya produced 598.47 million kilograms of tea in 2024, an increase of 4.95 per cent from the previous year.
• CS Kagwe emphasized Kenya's diversification into Orthodox and specialty teas, including unique purple tea, which fetches three to four times the price of black tea.
• The growth in tea production is attributed to favorable weather, subsidized fertilizer programs, and expanded processing capacity.
