Ethiopia is set to inaugurate the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (Gerd), Africa’s largest hydro-electric plant, on a tributary of the River Nile. This monumental project, built at a cost of approximately $5bn (£3.7bn), has sparked national pride in Ethiopia but raised significant concerns in Egypt over its potential impact on water supply.
