The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) remains Kenya's largest public sector employer, according to a recent Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) report. The report indicates public sector employment in Kenya surpassed one million in 2024, reaching 1.023 million employees, a 3.1 per cent increase from the previous year.

• The TSC saw the highest employment growth at 5.2 per cent, with its workforce growing from 390,400 in 2023 to 410,700 in 2024.
• Ministries and extra-budgetary institutions are the second largest employers, increasing their workforce by 1.3 per cent to 236,700.
• County governments are also significant employers, with employment rising by 2.3 per cent to 226,500 people.
