A recent study reveals that 42.9% of Kenyans experienced police abuse of power between March 2022 and March 2024, with Kisumu County recording the highest prevalence. The report highlights widespread misconduct, mistrust, and weak accountability within the country’s criminal justice system, despite a slight decline from 46.2% in 2019.

• Medium-severity misconduct, primarily corruption/extortion (55.8%) and harassment (54.7%), was the most prevalent category, affecting 85.2% of reported cases.
