The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has requested 21-day custodial orders for a DCI officer, Eric Gitonga, following the fatal shooting of two boda boda riders in Makongeni, Thika West Sub-County. The incident occurred after a collision and subsequent altercation along the Thika–Garissa Highway, leading to the deaths of Kennedy Ojuma and Stephen Mwendwa.

• IPOA seeks 21 days of custody for Eric Gitonga to facilitate investigations including post-mortem examinations, ballistic analysis of the officer's firearm, and collection of CCTV footage.
• The officer, attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit, was allegedly intoxicated during the incident in Makongeni.
• IPOA has secured key documents from Makongeni and Thika Police Stations and recorded statements from nine police officers linked to the case.
