The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has banned the grading, sorting, and packaging of miraa for export at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) verandas and walkways, effective September 9, 2025.

• The ban was implemented following international best practices and protocol for handling export goods.
• Managing Director Mohamud Gedi of KAA announced the new regulations.
• The Agriculture Food Authority considers miraa a food crop, subject to regulated handling guidelines.
