Motorists on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, particularly the Mai Mahiu section, are advised to exercise caution due to severe traffic congestion that began on Thursday, September 11. The gridlock, stretching for several kilometers, was reportedly exacerbated by drivers ignoring traffic rules and local protests.

• The congestion on the Mai Mahiu stretch affected traffic from Mutarakwa towards Nakuru CBD from Nairobi, with minimal movement from Nairobi and no movement from Naivasha towards Nairobi.
• The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LoDDCA) reported that the traffic snarl-up began around 4am on Thursday, attributed to lane indiscipline and protests by Nakuru residents over a flood victim.
• The government plans to expand the road to a four-lane highway under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) at an estimated cost of Ksh200 billion, with construction expected to begin before the end of the year.
