The Mumbuni Girls Secondary School in Machakos is under investigation after a fire destroyed part of a girls’ dormitory on Thursday around 6:30 p.m., causing significant property damage but reporting no serious casualties.

• The fire broke out on the second floor of a two-storey building, destroying various personal belongings.
• Machakos County firefighters swiftly contained the blaze, with officers from Machakos Police Station also responding.
• According to Machakos Deputy County Commissioner David Rotich, no casualties were reported, though a few students went into shock and received treatment at Machakos Level 5 Hospital.
• Parents like Faith Mathei and Edna Ndunge expressed relief that no students were severely injured, noting only three girls were affected by shock.
