The Kenyan government is urging universities to transform academic research into market-ready solutions and enterprises, shifting away from donor dependency towards sustainable financing. This call was made at the 4th Commercialisation and Entrepreneurial Institutions Leaders’ Summit (CEIL 2025) in Mombasa.
- The Research-to-Commercialisation (R2C) Accelerator has already created 18 enterprises and 220 jobs, raising Sh217 million.
- Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei launched Student-Led Innovation Clubs in 11 universities, including the University of Nairobi, Daystar, USIU-Africa, and Zetech.
- The CEO of the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA), Dr. Tonny Omwansa, highlighted plans for a Shared Technology Transfer Office and the NEIL Innovation Fund.
