President William Ruto has directed the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and teacher unions to negotiate a reduction in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) review cycle for Kenyan teachers, currently set at four years. This decision follows a request from teachers to shorten the period to two years.

• Ruto proposed that the CBA review period be reduced, tasking the TSC, Ministry of Education, and teacher unions with determining the appropriate new cycle length.
• Teachers will also receive an improved medical cover, comparable to civil servants, and 20 percent of affordable housing units will be reserved for them via an MoU signed with the Affordable Housing Board.
• The government plans to increase funds for teacher promotions from KSh1 billion to KSh2 billion, aiming to promote 50,000 teachers annually, and will recruit teachers based on a "first in, first out" policy, including exploring the employment of 45-year-old unemployed teachers.
