Nairobi County is cracking down on improper waste disposal in the Central Business District (CBD), with Chief Environment Officer Geoffrey Mosiria announcing that county askaris will now arrest individuals caught littering.

Anyone found dropping waste, from candy wrappers to plastic bottles, in undesignated areas will be apprehended and charged.
Mosiria urged business owners in the CBD to pay for garbage collection by registered persons instead of using street families.
The announcement followed a massive September 14 cleanup in the CBD by 3,000 Green Army personnel, praised by Governor Johnson Sakaja.
The cleanup paves the way for Green Nairobi Company Limited, a new county-owned entity to revolutionize waste management in the capital.
