Kenya has urged African nations to enhance collaboration in eradicating trypanosomiasis, a disease severely impacting livestock productivity, food security, and public health across the continent. This call was made during the 37th International Scientific Council for Trypanosomiasis Research and Control (ISCTRC) in Nairobi, emphasizing a 'One Health' approach.

• Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mutahi Kagwe, stated that trypanosomiasis costs the country an estimated $143 million annually in livestock and agricultural losses, affecting 23 percent of its landmass.
• The World Health Organization (WHO) validated in June 2025 that Kenya has eliminated Human African Trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) as a public health problem.
• The conference, themed "Harnessing One Health Technologies and Innovations Towards Eliminating Trypanosomiasis in Africa," attracted over 300 delegates from more than 30 African Union member states and global research partners.
