- Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mutahi Kagwe, stated that trypanosomiasis costs the country an estimated $143 million annually in livestock and agricultural losses, affecting 23 percent of its landmass.
- The World Health Organization (WHO) validated in June 2025 that Kenya has eliminated Human African Trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) as a public health problem.
