Uganda's People's Front for Freedom (PFF), a party linked to opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, will not field a presidential candidate in the 2026 Ugandan general election. This decision follows Besigye's abduction from Nairobi and subsequent arrest, aiming to unify opposition efforts against President Yoweri Museveni.

• The PFF announcement comes after Dr. Kizza Besigye and his aide, Obeid Lutale, were abducted from Nairobi, Kenya, on November 16, 2024, and subsequently charged with illegal possession of firearms and treachery in Kampala.
• Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, Secretary General and Spokesperson for the PFF, stated the decision aims to build a "single stronger freedom-seeking force" and confirmed talks with Maj Gen (Rtd) Mugisha Muntu's Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party and Bobi Wine's National Unity Platform (NUP) party.
• Both Gen Muntu and Bobi Wine have secured presidential nomination forms, with Dr. Besigye, a four-time presidential contender, set to miss the ballot for the second consecutive election while remaining remanded at Luzira Prison on treason charges.
