Journalist Evans Nyakundi has been released from prison after being jailed for contempt of court. He was incarcerated for disobeying court orders related to publishing a specific story.

• Nyakundi spent weeks in custody after being sentenced to 6-months imprisonment on July 28, 2025.
• The release was ordered by Justice Winfridah Okwany following an application by lawyer Danstan Omari.
• He was released on the condition of paying a fine of Ksh.30,000 and risked losing his employment with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
