St. Teresa’s Maternity and Nursing Home in Kikuyu, Kiambu County is defending itself against allegations of medical negligence after patient Phylis Wanjiru, 32, died on September 9 following a cesarean section at their facility. The hospital states all procedures were followed and her death was due to Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC).

• Phylis Wanjiru died after being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) hours after surgery at St. Teresa's.
• The hospital claims Phylis was in an "alert and stable" condition upon transfer to KNH at 1pm, and that KNH informed them of her death at 11am the next morning.
• Her husband, Dennis Wanyonyi, alleges KNH doctors questioned procedures done at St. Teresa's and is appealing to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) for an investigation.
