A man identified as Abbas Bardu Omuyoma, alias Ishmael, has been arrested in Nairobi for allegedly swindling a Canadian investor out of Ksh.36 million in a fake gold deal. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended Omuyoma after the investor reported not receiving 550kg of promised gold nuggets and bars.

• The investor transferred USD 280,000 (Ksh.36 million) via cryptocurrency.
• Abbas Bardu Omuyoma, alias Ishmael, lured the investor with a promise of 550kg of gold from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
• The complaint was filed on September 1, 2025, and detectives are still searching for an accomplice.
