Police are under scrutiny again in Mombasa after another remandee, Simon Warui, died in custody under suspicious circumstances at Central Police Station. His death follows a previous unexplained death in police cells, raising serious questions about police conduct and accountability.

• Simon Warui, who went missing in Nairobi a week prior, was found dead with a post-mortem revealing he died due to lack of oxygen and sustained fractures on his neck and a broken hand.
• The family was denied access to Warui after being notified he was at Mombasa Central Police Station, and later shown his body in a washroom where police claimed he was found.
• A human rights activist, Wallid Sketty, questioned the police's explanation, stating, "Wao wanasema alijaribu kupanda ukuta akaanguka akafariki. Kulingana na akili ya kibinadamu hili ni jambo ambalo halingii akilini."
