Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has discharged all teen mothers previously held over pending bills and Social Health Authority (SHA) registration, following public outcry and media reports.

• All teen mothers detained at MTRH have been released.
• The hospital had initially denied allegations of detaining mothers due to SHA registration or unpaid premiums.
• The Hospital Credit and Evaluation Committee cleared mothers without proper documentation for SHA registration.
• Reports from the Daily Nation on September 18 alleged hospital overcrowding and poor conditions, which MTRH CEO Philip Kirwa refuted.
• The issue comes as the Rural & Urban Private Hospitals Association of Kenya (RUPHA) instructed private hospitals to demand cash payments from SHA beneficiaries starting Monday, September 22, due to delayed payments.
