Airtel Africa's new AI-driven Spam Alert service has identified over 205 million spam SMS messages across 13 markets in the last six months, with Kenya recording the highest volume at 68 million.

Kenya led with 68 million flagged spam messages, followed by Tanzania with 47 million and Zambia with 33 million.
The service, which automatically prefixes suspected spam messages with "SPAM Alert," has contributed to a 12 percent reduction in spam messages across the continent, including an 84 percent decline in Nigeria.
Chief Executive Officer Sunil Taldar of Airtel Africa emphasized the company's commitment to using advanced tech solutions to tackle spam, especially as smartphone penetration rises in Africa.
