Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has pardoned prominent activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, a British-Egyptian national who was a leading figure in Egypt's 2011 uprising and jailed for most of the past decade. The pardon also included five others.

• Abdel Fattah was serving a five-year sentence for "spreading false news" after a 2019 arrest.
• The pardon follows a 10-month hunger strike by Alaa's mother, Laila Soueif, and Abdel Fattah's own hunger strike since September.
• The pardon comes after Sisi ordered authorities to study a petition from the state-affiliated National Council for Human Rights and a Cairo criminal court removed Abdel Fattah from the country's terrorism list.
