Laikipia County Woman Representative Jane Kagiri has introduced a motion in the National Assembly urging the Kenyan government to seek an extension of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which is set to expire in September 2025. Kagiri warns that failure to renew AGOA could jeopardize over 60,000 jobs in Kenya and disrupt vital trade ties.

• The motion proposes extending AGOA for an additional sixteen years, until 2041.
• AGOA has significantly boosted African exports to the United States, including over USD 500 million in agricultural products in 2020.
• A two-year transition period is proposed if AGOA is not renewed, allowing for negotiations on an alternative trade deal.
