At least 100 people are feared dead after a gold mining pit collapsed in Zamfara State, Nigeria, on Thursday. Rescue operations are ongoing following the incident at the Kadauri mining site.

• 13 bodies have been recovered, according to Sanusi Auwal, a local resident involved in rescue efforts.
• Illegal mining is prevalent in Zamfara, with armed gangs often controlling gold fields, which contributes to accidents and violence.
