The Kenya Sugar Board (KSB) announced that all four state-owned sugar mills, recently leased to private investors, will be fully operational by the end of October, aiming to revitalize the sugar sector.

• Two factories, Muhoroni and South Nyanza (SoNY) Sugar Companies, are already operational, with the remaining two, Chemelil and Nzoia, expected to resume milling by next month.
• KSB Chairperson Eng. Nicholas Gumbo confirmed the progress and addressed concerns about delayed salaries, assuring workers that the government is addressing the issue.
• The operational mills have significantly increased their weekly crushing capacity from 7,000 tonnes to 11,000 tonnes since leasing, and are now able to cover salary obligations and make profits, stimulating local economies.
