The Kenya Sugar Board (KSB) announced that all four state-owned sugar mills recently leased to private investors will be fully operational by the end of October, with two already running.
- KSB Chairman Nicholas Gumbo confirmed that Muhoroni and South Nyanza (SoNY) Sugar Companies are operational, crushing 11,000 tonnes of cane weekly, up from 7,000 tonnes.
- The remaining mills, Chemelil and Nzoia, are undergoing machine rehabilitation and are set to resume milling by the end of October.
- Gumbo stated that efforts are underway to address delayed salaries, noting that past mismanagement led to arrears when monthly obligations exceeded Sh100 million, while mills generated only Sh20–30 million.
- Chemelil Sugar 2025 Director Jassi Chatthe confirmed their factory is on track for an October restart with ongoing phased machine upgrades.
