Following a tragic ambulance accident in Kimende that killed six people, the Road Safety Awareness Initiative-Kenya is demanding stricter laws for emergency vehicle drivers. The initiative is calling for mandatory Emergency Vehicle Operator licenses and regular, specialized refresher courses for drivers.

• The call follows a Saturday accident where a St Mary's Mission Hospital, Elementaita, ambulance crashed, killing all six occupants, including the patient, her husband, two relatives, a nurse, and the driver.
• The Road Safety Awareness Initiative-Kenya proposed legislation for mandatory Emergency Vehicle Operator licenses with refresher courses tailored for different environments (urban, rural, highways).
• Under the Traffic Act Cap 403, emergency vehicles like ambulances are permitted to break traffic rules in emergency situations.
