Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has refuted a viral letter claiming the government approved university lecturers' strike until January 2026 and directed students to vacate campuses. He labeled the letter as fake and urged the public to disregard it.

The strike, which began in mid-September, has paralyzed learning in public universities, affecting thousands of students, especially first-years.
The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) insist the strike will continue despite court directives and the CS's statements.
Lecturers demand the government honor previous agreements, noting only Ksh2.5 billion of the owed Ksh7.9 billion from the 2017 and 2021 Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) has been disbursed.
