Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced plans to merge schools with low student numbers following an audit to address the pilferage of public funds through inflated capitation claims. The ministry aims to complete the verification of student enrollment within the current month.

• The government noted a trend where schools with as few as ten students claimed heavy capitation, leading to misuse of funds.
• CS Ogamba stated that 75 per cent of the school enrollment verification audit is complete, with the remaining 25 per cent expected to be finished this month.
• In addition to mergers, the government plans to establish comprehensive schools, integrating primary and junior secondary levels, and has allocated Kshs 1.3 billion for school infrastructure.
