The United Nations Security Council has rebranded the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) with a stronger, offensive mandate, backed by the US and Panama. This new mission aims to tackle the severe humanitarian and security crisis in Haiti.

• The GSF will operate under an initial 12-month mandate with an expected strength of 5,550 personnel.
• Kenya, which led the previous MSS, supports the transition, though its future troop contribution to the GSF is a "policy decision to be made in due course".
• The UN Security Council emphasized that Haiti's government retains "primary responsibility" for national security, with the GSF providing support.
