Four individuals, including a 14-year-old, have died after a gold mine collapsed in Kampi Karayi, Pokot Central, West Pokot County on Thursday afternoon. Several other miners are feared trapped underground as rescue efforts continue.

• This is the second mine collapse in the Kambi Karaya area, and the third in West Pokot County, since June.
• Artisanal miners were actively working when the collapse occurred.
• Previous incidents include one death in Kambi Karaya in June, and four deaths in Turkwel, West Pokot County, on Saturday, June 7, where loose soil from prior excavation was a factor.
• West Pokot County Commissioner Khalif Abdullahi attributed past incidents to rampant illegal mining.
