Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has attributed the prolonged lecturers' strike to a misunderstanding between the Ministry of Education and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), not the Treasury. He clarified that the Treasury has disbursed all allocated funds for the lecturers as per agreements.

• The Treasury released Ksh4.3 billion in the previous financial year and a further Ksh2.7 billion for 2025/26.
• Mbadi stated the actual amount owed to lecturers, reportedly totaling Ksh7.9 billion, is disputed, with the SRC claiming Ksh7.2 billion has been paid through increments, while the government acknowledges Ksh624 million is still owed.
• The strike, ongoing for almost a month, has paralyzed learning in public universities, with Mbadi questioning why lecturers waited until 2025 to raise concerns about payments due between 2017 and 2021.
