Approximately 9 million Kenyans who have defaulted on loans from the Hustler Fund will be ineligible for the government's new National Youth Opportunities towards Advancement (NYOTA) funds. This decision was announced as Principal Secretaries began drumming up support for NYOTA, a collaborative financial empowerment project by the Government of Kenya and the World Bank.

• The NYOTA initiative aims to support the creation of 100,000 youth-led enterprises, with up to 70 young people in each of the 1450 wards receiving Ksh.50,000 in grants.
• Irrigation PS Ephantus Kimotho and Social Protection PS Joseph Montari both emphasized that Hustler Fund defaulters will be "knocked out" during the verification process due to their inability to repay previous government loans.
• The Hustler Fund, launched after President William Ruto assumed office in 2022, has experienced challenges with uncollected debts, with State Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development PS Susan Mang’eni stating on September 12 that the total default amount was Ksh.5 billion.
