The construction of the High Grand Falls Dam along the River Tana is projected to cost Kenyan taxpayers between Sh323.3 million ($2.5 million) and Sh348 million ($2.7 million), according to the Ministry of Energy. This ambitious project aims to add over 400 megawatts of electricity to the national grid by 2032.

The total project cost, including power lines, is estimated between $2.5 billion and $2.7 billion.
Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira confirmed ongoing consultations to onboard a new partner for the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) implementation.
Beyond power generation, the dam will mitigate perennial flooding in Garissa and Tana River counties and enable irrigation of over 250,000 hectares of farmland.
