The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has announced the impending closure of Kenya's avocado export season, effective Monday, October 20, due to insufficient volumes for sea shipment. While sea exports will halt, air shipments of specific varieties will continue under strict conditions.

The closure, announced by Director General Bruno Linyiru, will be reviewed in January 2026.
Hass, Fuerte, Pinkerton, and Jumbo avocado varieties are exempt from the sea export ban and can be shipped by air, requiring special clearance.
AFA will verify avocado oil processors' stocks and issue export permits before the closure, warning against illegal practices such as mixing avocados with mangoes for export.
