Two powerful earthquakes struck the southern Philippines on a Friday, resulting in at least seven deaths and triggering tsunami warnings. The initial quake measured 7.4 magnitude, followed by a 6.7 magnitude aftershock nearly ten hours later in the same area.

• Seven people were killed in the quakes: three miners in Manay, one in Mati city due to a collapsed wall, two from fatal heart attacks in Mati city, and one crushed by debris in Davao city.
• The United States Geological Survey reported the 7.4 magnitude quake hit about 20 kilometres off Manay town in the Mindanao region.
• The earthquakes occurred 11 days after a 6.9 magnitude quake killed 75 people and injured over 1,200 in Cebu province.
