A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has come into effect, leading to a partial withdrawal of Israeli troops from parts of Gaza and allowing thousands of Palestinians to return north. This agreement, brokered by US President Donald Trump, also outlines plans for hostage and prisoner exchanges and increased humanitarian aid.

• The ceasefire became effective on Friday morning, following the approval of the deal's first phase by the Israeli government on Thursday.
• Hamas is required to release all Israeli hostages, including an estimated 20 alive and up to 28 sets of remains, by Monday at 12:00 local time.
• Israel is slated to release approximately 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, with 100 going to the West Bank and 5 to East Jerusalem, along with 1,700 Palestinians from Gaza.
• Around 600 aid trucks are expected to enter Gaza daily from Friday, aiming to address the declared famine in parts of the territory where over half a million people face "catastrophic" conditions.
