Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that the public university lecturers' strike, which began on September 17, will end this week as the government and the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) are close to a deal.
- The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has agreed to pay lecturers Ksh7.2 billion, against their demand of Ksh7.9 billion, leaving a balance of Ksh624 million for the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- Engagement primarily focused on honoring the 2017-2021 CBA and nearing an agreement for the 2025-2029 CBA.
- UASU Secretary General, Constantine Wesonga, criticized the SRC for interfering in collective bargaining and proposing only Ksh3 billion for four years for all university workers.
