Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji has accused Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki of protecting powerful manufacturers of illicit brews. Mukunji claims that the fight against illegal alcohol, which he alleges collapsed after the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, is now being undermined by Kindiki's office.

• Mukunji stated that the current Deputy President is "not only silent, he’s part of the problem. Some of these brewers are his proxies."
• He alleged that under the 'Mama Boys' rehabilitation programme, over 200 youths from Embu underwent rehabilitation before the initiative was cancelled.
• Mukunji also criticized Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire for allegedly diverting county resources for political protests instead of addressing issues like the health system for addiction treatment.
