A GSU officer attached to Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa lost his Jericho pistol from his holster during the burial ceremony of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Sunday, October 19, in Bondo, Siaya County.

• The incident occurred at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) grounds around 4pm.
• The pistol was allegedly snatched while the officer, an Assistant Inspector General, was shielding Governor Barasa from a rowdy crowd.
• The burial event was also marred by other controversies, including the deaths of at least three people and numerous injuries in Nairobi on Thursday, October 16, during a body viewing.
• Raila Odinga was accorded a 17-gun salute at his burial.
