The Central Bank of Kenya's (CBK) human resources department has been criticized by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu for multiple alleged breaches, including hiring applicants who did not meet mandatory experience requirements and failing to consult the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) on salaries.

• Gathungu noted instances where shortlisted or successful candidates for recruitment at CBK lacked required experience or service periods.
• The Auditor General also cited non-adherence to internal HR policies in staff promotions and mishandling of secondments, exposing CBK to potential financial and legal risks.
• Similar concerns about hiring malpractices have been raised elsewhere, with the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) previously accused of ethnic bias in hiring, particularly favoring two ethnic groups.
