A team of Chinese experts is currently assessing two Kenyan tea factories, Mungania and Chebango, to prepare them for producing orthodox tea specifically for the lucrative Chinese market. This initiative stems from an agreement between President William Ruto and Zhang Chaobon, Chairman of Benny Tea Industries, made in May 2025.

• The partnership aims to boost value addition, create jobs, and increase farmer incomes by enabling Benny Tea to manufacture "China-preferred teas" in Kenya for export.
• The Tea Board of Kenya (TBK) CEO, Willy Mutai, stated that 22 factories are licensed to manufacture orthodox teas, with 13 new government-supported processing lines already in place.
• The assessment team is identifying technology needs and designing an implementation plan, ensuring the best produce for the Chinese market.
