The European Union has approved its 19th package of sanctions against Russia, including a ban on imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). This decision follows recent escalated cross-border attacks between Russia and Ukraine.

• The LNG import ban will be implemented in two phases, with full effect a year earlier than initially planned for reducing reliance on Russian fossil fuels.
• The sanctions also impose additional travel restrictions on Russian diplomats and designate 117 more vessels from Russia's shadow fleet, bringing the total to 558.
• Slovakia was the final holdout, with Prime Minister Robert Fico seeking assurances regarding energy prices and climate goals.
